What are the negative impacts that friends have on our life?
Peer Pressure.
There can be good or bad peer pressure. In this context, I’m talking about negative peer pressure. The term “peer pressure” already sounds frightening by itself. So, what exactly is so frightening about this “peer pressure”? It is actually the use of emotional blackmail to scare people off so that the victim usually abides by what the attacker wants. This affects the victim’s mental health and he or she may grow up to be afraid of big bullies or even people in their surroundings and may become an introvert.
Therefore, it is important to make a good choice of friends. The next time you ever come across someone who tries to emotionally blackmail you, do not be afraid. Always consult your parents’ and teachers’ and the issue will be resolved in no time!
There are also other similar types like:
Gang Activity.
Teens are trying to figure out their place in their school or group. They have low self esteem, or they want to feel secure and sheltered away from the harsh reality of what they have to face.
Bad Habits. Teens want to act like others as they feel a need to belong. They feel that their lives become easier when they act like others and others will be able to accept them readily. They care about what others will think if they do not follow their peers' standards.
With friends who have bad behaviour, you will inevitably be affected negatively. Under peer pressure, you will become like them: not studying and doing unnecessary things that catches other people’s attention. You will become rebellious and be changed totally. Also, your results in all subjects will deteriorate and under bad influence, you might even harm yourself by having body piercings—which may cost you your life if the surgical instruments used are not sterile or even smoking which will harm your lungs and the people around you as passive smoking endangers other lives too.
[ and so if we let ourselves fall into friend's bad habits, we are basically ruining our own lives]
Therefore, we should question ourselves:
Why do we feel like that? Fear of isolation? Inadequacy? Shame and ridicule? Instinctive need to bond?
If you fall under any one of these categories, my advice to you is, it's time for you to pick a new friend or you should start learning to draw a line.
